Simon has been appointed our new Musical Director, starting in earnest in September 2026.

He provided this information to say "hello":

​

I was a choral scholar in Cambridge and went on to study conducting in Hungary at the Liszt Academy. I worked with the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, the World Youth Chamber Choir in Belgium and was the founder Musical Director (MD) of the Welsh National Youth Opera. I have also been MD of a wide variety of choirs and ensembles including the Cardiff Polyphonic Choir, Cadoxton Opera Society, and for a number of years I led the Girl Choristers at Llandaff Cathedral School. Most recently I was appointed MD of Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society - a large choir of over 100 members - where my first programme featured American repertoire including Randall-Thompon's Frostiana, and Bernstein's Chichester Psalms in the summer of 2023.

 

My home life is dominated by exercising my dogs, Millie and Monti, and trying to keep track of my three children: Harry (eldest) is a professional percussionist working out of London, Charlie (middle) is a violinist recently featured in Classical FM's 'Rising Stars' and Eirlys (youngest) is looking forward to her debut at Theatr Clwyd and Chichester in the new play: Atlantis.

 

Workwise - the day job involves visiting schools and Colleges in South Wales and South West England, helping young people make decisions about the scary world of Higher Education!
